>>HISTORY<<
Shopsmith 6x48 vertical/horizontal belt sander, for use on the 5-in-1 machine, variable speed Power Station or separate motor driven stand.
Continuous service, since purchased new in January 1993.
>>MACHINE<<
The main castings are machined aluminum and the platen is a steel plate.
The table top is machined cast iron.
Both drive and idler drums are equipped with ball bearings.
A dust collection shroud surrounds the drive drum. A 2½ diameter elbow allows easy hook-up in vertical and horizontal positions.
Opposite the pulley is a 5/8" diameter accessory shaft.
For the first twenty years, this sander was driven by the Shopsmith variable speed Power Station.
Now I have installed it on a particle board sub-base, using the Shopsmith accessory stand base.
It is now powered by a ½hp 1750rpm Craftsman 115.6962 motor.
Both machine and motor are equipped with 2½" pulleys and a 4L belt.
The set-up is now installed on a rolling stand with other sanders.
