Comments:
I bought this lathe from a craftsman in Mountlake Terrace, WA for $100 via my brother-in-law who picked it up and stored it at his Whidby Island home until he could bring it down to me a few months later. The original stand wasn't very sturdy and would best be replaced by cast iron legs, but they are hard to find and usually expensive so I made a stand using the iron legs from an old sewing machine and some pallet oak for the leg under the tailstock end. This setup was sturdier and worked well for the spindle turning I have been doing but I came upon a set of cast iron legs made by Duro Metal Products for only $50, so I overhauled and painted the lathe and legs to match. The original paint was a very attractive bluish grey and Sherwin Williams was able to get a perfect match of the color on the underside of the pulley cover. I am including the formula in case that may be helpful to anyone.
