Comments:
A friend of mine and I spotted this machine sitting with a large group of grinders at a machinery clearing house. Something about the shape of the cast iron base caught my eye so I purchased it. After I got it home and started researching the machine I was pleased to find that the company was still in business producing top quality grinders after 100 years! They were very friendly and informative and gave 1915 to 1920 as their best guess at the manufacture date.

Although the unit still ran smoothly, the motor winding was packed full of grease and the cloth insulation on the wiring was disintegrating. Apparently sometime in her life she had the original open bearings replaced with sealed and shielded bearings. But the maintenance department kept pumping grease into the fittings and with nowhere to go it backed up into the motor itself. Ugh! So we took the motor assembly to a professional rewind shop and they did a great job putting in new copper winding, bearings, and testing the motor. She runs wonderfully.

Comments: Finished unit. Note the switch assembly on top and the spark shields were added in the 1950's (best guess) due to new safety regs. We chose to leave them.
