The Silver Mfg Co. – Advance No.14
2-speeds. Complete, including feed-wheel and auto-feed lever (not visible in photos). The yoke supporting the table is broken.
I bought this post drill this morning (28 Dec 2013). I won’t be able to collect it until the end of January. More photos and details in February.
Update (1 Feb 2014):
I collected the post drill and transported it by car to a relative’s place, still some 450 miles from home. There I disassembled it and carried the flywheel, yoke/fork; crank arm; & feedwheel, home on the train. The rest will have to wait until next visit.
Some new photos loaded.
I found that the feedwheel wooden handle and bolt are missing, and I think the wooden crank handle is also a replacement.
The column is 2¾” diameter and solid (compared to the one on my CB&F #61 which is half that diameter and hollow tube). The flywheel is 17¾“ diameter and weighs 14kg (31 lb).
The whole PD weighs 240lb (crated) according to an old advert.
Run of feed = 3"; dia. of spindle = 1 1/8"; large crank gear has 50 teeth; spindle gear has 34 teeth; flywheel shaft gear has 24 teeth: idler gear has 24 teeth. Drills to the centre of a 22” circle.
