I found this Beach model 305 at an auction for a pallet company that was closing, in operation since the early 1900’s. The shaper had sat unused for many years, not needed to make pallets. As found the main shaft bearings were seized, the guard was broken, and the machine was rusty. I found sealed bearings to replace the open ball bearings that were standard equipment, easier to maintain. I removed and replaced the 3 HP 3 phase motor with a single phase 3 HP motor and a modern magnetic switch. I also replaced the flat belt with a v-belt. The standard 1” shaft was too large for 95% of my shaper cutters, turned down to ¾” by a machinist friend. I also have the original fence, not very substantial. The table was drilled and tapped for a homemade fence as purchased. The shaper is an awesome addition to my shop, replacing one of my Grizzly shapers. The machine is vibration free, a solid working machine.
