My father no longer turns wood and gave me this lathe. He owned it for over 20 years. He bought it from a friend who dealt in used wood lathes. My father turned a lot of rolling pins, biscuit cutters, pullmanders, and Christmas ornaments for curio shops in the Ozarks. It was a profitable hobby for him. It was mounted on a set of Delta cast Iron legs. I have a Delta Homecraft that was on a heavy wood stand. I put the Delta on the cast iron legs and the Craftsman on the wood stand.
The Craftsman is a heavy lathe for its size. It has a one HP Dayton motor and a link belt, it runs very smooth. I have done some counter boring in aluminum and the tail stock is dead on for alignment. My father made extra tool rests and holders, face plates and other attachments for it.
The head stock shaft is 1"x8TPI on both ends and excepts Morse Taper 2 attachments as does the tail stock. The ways are 1 3/4" wide with 2 1/4th" between them. It is 4 speed. The numbers: 10 5614 are stamped in the top of the front way. The original tool rest holder has been broke and welded. I us a Delta (Beaver) tool holder, I like it better. I stripped, primed and painted using Ace Royal Blue spray paint. I down loaded a picture of the Decal from this site, printed it and coated it with several layers with lacquer, front and back, cut it out and glued it on. It's a little bigger than the original but close enough.
