This little sander belonged to my wife's grandfather, "Pop Pop". He used this along with other 50s vintage Craftsman tools to make her dollhouse, which now belongs to our daughter. He had it set up in some funky way with a hinged board to tension the belt, but I reworked it all onto one single board, reversed the motor so it would all line up, and now it's easy to just pull out and put on the bench when it's needed.
I found a place to order custom sized sanding belts online. One catalog says this is a 34" belt, the next year catalog says it's a 35" belt. "Pop Pop" had simply used a 36" belt and put wood shims on the ends of the adjuster screws, and it worked, barely.
All I did was clean this up and it runs and tracks wonderfully. The 1/6th HP motor provides sufficient power for such a small belt sander, so the set up is perfect for a small shop, which is what Pop Pop had in his South Philly basement.

This picture shows the wood shims and how it was barely haning on!

After shot, all cleaned up. Look at the slack with a 36" belt!!
