Comments:
I purchased this lathe in Richmond VA, purely because I thought it was very unusual. It was made by Swayne Robinson, & Co. in Richmond Indiana, and so found its way from one Richmond to another.

It has #1 MT tapers in the heastock and tailstock. The bearings are supposed to be Timken - I did not get past the oil cups to check. It is V belt drive. The spindle threads appear to be 7/8 x 8, though I didn't try them with a pitch gage. Apparently, the machine could be used for wood or metal and a variety of optional accessories were available, including a faceplate, a mica undercutter, a tool rest for wood turning, and a rudimentary compound. Most of the information I have on the machine comes from the UK Lathes site. The seller had gotten it from his father. He made the decision to part with it after stubbing his toe one too many times. His father had made tool handles with it. It would appear well suited to precise spindle turning such as small patterns.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has one of these, catalogs manuals or brochures or knows more about the company.
