Comments:
I have what I think is a Computing Scale Co Serial number 1336, Foley Filing and Jointing Machine F-1 Band Saw File / Sharpener. Patented August 06, 1901 - December 11, 1906. However, it does not match the patent drawings that closely. http://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?pn=679748&id=9592. Also, the file has a hand crank that says "The Computing Scale Company Dayton, OH". This is perplexing. I look at the archives and contacted IBM who owns Computing Scale Company to see if they have any information. Possibly this was a home-made item or a prototype. I'm not sure.

Machine Base 7" length x 4" width x 6.5" height. Full Machine Total 13.25" length x 6.5" width x 6.5" height.
Bench 39.5" length x 14" depth x 27" height. Full Bench Total 39.5" length x 24" depth x 35" height.

I picked this up at an auction in Antigo, Wisconsin because I thought it looked neat, it reminded me of my grandfather and I wanted to turn the bench into a desk. Now after researching it I think that I need to preserve the history of the file instead of repurposing it. I am an artist and salvage and repurpose items. Any helpful tips for finding out more information would be appreciated.

[ADMIN NOTE 2016-04-28: The patent link above is for the 1901 patent. The 1906 patent was granted to Hugh B. Foley and does closely match this machine:
http://www.datamp.org/patents/search/advance.php?pn=837922&id=9593
One possibility is that the crank doesn't belong with the machine but it looks like it matches the style of the rest of the machine. I think it more likely that the Computing Scale Co. was the first maker of Foley saw sharpening machines. More research is needed.]
