>>HISTORY<<
Purchased in September 2013, from a fellow OWWMer in Illinois.
Picked up at ArnFest 2013.
>>MACHINE<<
Sears Craftsman 4-3/8" jointer in Power-Bronze, built by Central Specialty.
This jointer was the mid-level offering, just below the larger 6" machine.
It is very heavy for its size.
The base and outfeed table are comprised of a single semi-steel casting.
The fence is an aluminum extrusion and tilts up to 45° outward.
The bearings, which are very dry, are shielded inch series R8.
Future plans include bearing replacement, cleaning, adjusting and use.
UPDATE September 2015:
Original FAG R8Z bearings with removeable shields-flushed and repacked with Mobil Polyrex EM grease.
Reassembled and aligned infeed elevation lock mechanism.
Added 2"x½" bore Chicago Die-Casting pulley.
Hand sharpened knives on waterstones.
Aligned and set knives .002" above outfeed table, using a dial indicator (cutter head has knife jack screws).
Test run on a Craftsman 16x30 Universal Stand with a 115.6963 ½hp 3450rpm motor and 2½" pulley.
Very smooth cuts! One of the quietest jointers I've ever used.
