Comments:
This scroll saw is unlabeled, but matches the style of the JS78 seen in the 1934 Power King catalog, but without the support leg. The table shape is the same, and I haven't found another Mftr. that used that shape.
Could it be the 12" model listed in the #103 price list, but not pictured ?
Or could this have been made by the Portable Tool Company before they changed their name to Power King ?
The only mark on it is an upside-down stamp labeling it as model# JS1, placed on the frame under the oscillating mechanism.
I originally bought this at a yard sale in the early 90's for $10. The underside of the table had signs of red paint, but I changed it to blue because that was what I had on hand. I mounted the saw to a piece of plywood with a 1/4hp motor and switch. It was used, as needed, for 20yrs before I finally retired it and "upgraded" to a 1950's Craftsman/King Seeley. The saw takes a 5" blade, and would chatter your teeth when running.
These pictures are from a recent refurbish. (the 2nd time I have restored it)
