This came out of the Baker Furniture factory before they shut down operations in Holland, MI. Designed and patented by Anthony Margelis - a young Lithuanian immigrant who settled in Grand Rapids and went to work at the John Widdicomb Co. . He apparently received a patent for a wood clamp in 1923 and then a second patent for his "Dowel Press" in 1934. Aside from being a sort of novel little machine, it does work extremely well for compressing wood dowels to fit perfectly in their respective holes.
