Purchased from Bob in Prince Frederick MD. Bob had gotten it at a public school auction with the intention of restoring it. Bob is moving and had to clear out his shop, so, now its my turn. I would guess that this lathe spent the first 35 years of its life with students making bowls, baseball bats, and candlestick holders. From the looks of it, a little French Polishing was tried.

Restoration Issues: Missing tailstock quill (thanks to auction inspection thievery), sloppy headstock bearings, flippity-flappity indexing sprocket, missing indexing pin assy, and incorrect VS control handle.

Update 02/19/07 - Finally finished this restoration project. Not the first one I finished, but the first one I started. I ended up buying a tailstock quill from catruckman on ebay. I had to make a new speed dial and variable speed control handle.

Irrelevant Post Script Story:
This aquisition took the form of a "guys day out" roadtrip. I loaded up the minivan with the boy team (4 and 7) and my brother. My brother has been working too much and needed a break - all he knew was that we would be driving off to Maryland to pick up "something old and heavy". This was OK, he knew that there would be driving, freedom, and food. Breakfast of Chicken Fried Steak, pancakes, and sausage was provided by the Alexandria Diner. The boy team worked together on the socket wrench, removing bed bolts.
