I got this grinder out of my brother's basement when he moved into his new house. He gave it to me because he already had a grinder so I took it and put it to good used. I have restored a handful of vintage dirt bikes and a couple of first generation 66-77 Ford Broncos with this grinder. Figuring this grinder was old and seemingly odd, after about 10 yrs. of use I'd figure I should take care of my trust tools and clean them up a bit. To my amazement and horror after cleaning the motor tag I then realized on how "old" this grinder actually really is. The grinder when I got it was loaded dirt and grim to the point I really couldn't make out the paten info at the bottom. Once cleaned I had to do a double take on the the year of the paten date "1893". Since discovering the age of the grinder I have retired it from use and contacted US Electrical Tool Co. for more info about it. They pulled their records and the earliest they had was from 1926 and their SN range was in the 80,000. This grinder I have is 45,645 which predates anything from the 1920's. Their is no way to find it's actual true manufacture date but it's oldest one I have seen or anyone that knows these grinders has seen too.

Comments: the "on/off" switch was not a toggle or rocker switch like used today. They use a plunge switch, the plunger on top left of motor electrical connection box is "on" once pulled in and for "off" there a smaller plunger on the back the connection box.

Comments: You know this motor is very early when the data tag also predates the US Electrical Tool Co. logo as they where added to all of their later equipment.
