Another Rockwell restored in Africa. Given to me by father that had started to restore the machine. Strangely the original machine work done by the rockwell factory was poor, I found that the table was as much as 2 degrees from square to the column. I re-machined both the table where it clamps against the column clamp and the surface of the column clamp itself. Table had the usual arc of shame. This was TIG welded with cast iron rod and then sent to auto machinist to do some surfacing. Table now true to the machine. I also put a taper pin in place of the standard parallel pin that Delta used to index the table. Quill clamp was missing, I came up with a simple design and fabricated it from two components which I silver soldered together, then sandblasted and powder coated. Small locking knob for belt cover machined and knurled as original. Quill clamp handle machined from scratch, ball machined on Schaublin lathe fitted with ball turning attachment, and components silver soldered together and then zinc plated. Original switch plate modified to accept new toggle switch. This machine had no balls on the end of the lever, this is something I added for functionality. Front pulley bearing was badly damaged, I tried to save it by cleaning and greasing with high quality grease, but no luck. So I needed to make a sleeve to fit newer style bearing, works like a dream now. All screws, nuts and bolts re-plated (zinc).
