Comments:
I acquired this sander through an IRS auction in York, Pa and a fellow member was kind enough to pick it up for me. This sander was listed in the auction as a 15" Pioneer Sander, but since I had never heard of this company I just assumed that it must be a distributor tag on a Syracuse or Porter Cable machine. I also bid on a PC disc sander at the same auction, but fortunately for me I ended up only winning this sander for about half the ending price of the other sander. I didn't give the sander much more thought until I made the trip to pick it up and found that it was in fact a Pioneer sander. Scott Andrew and Jeff Joslin did all of the leg work on discovering that Pioneer was actually Ray Carter's first attempt at selling these wonderful sanders.
Since this sander has a fair amount of original paint left and runs smooth and true, I don't plan to restore this unit. I also plan to buy a new (old style) push button switch to replace the current one. I doubt that I will ever put it through any tough work, but it will be a user machine in my shop along with another disc sander. I would like to hear from anyone else who has one of these Pioneer sanders to compare notes.I'll try to upload some better pics when I have it cleaned up and in place.
