This is a 13" Barton planer. Little is known about this manufacturer. The logo plate reads "Barton 13" Planer Dist. by Palmer D. Weeks 401 S.W. 1st Ave Portland Ore." The machine's main casting is cast aluminum, the table is cast iron and most of the "friction parts" [ways, sleeve bearings] are brass. The in feed and out feed rollers run on a belt and pulley system and the feed rate may be reduced by changing the belt/pulley configuration. The machine was purchased in Stockton, CA from a lumber dealer. As of June 2004 the machine was disassembled in preparation for a full restoration. The cutting head is ball bearing and has three knives. The pressure rollers run in brass sleeve bearings. I also own a 12" Parks planer and I would give this machine a small plus over the Parks. It is a little heavy duty from a construction stand point.
