I'd been looking for a die filer for a while and picked this up at the Cabin Fever Auction in April '13. The PO did a nice cosmetic restoration. On test running it it I found it leaked oil and had a distinct knocking sound. I disassembled it and found the cross slide bearing was worn excessively and led to a 'slapping" action as the machine ran. Additionally, a lower bushing cap had been installed, possibly by the PO to stem the oil leak. I replaced the O-ring (AS568A-214) in the cap and added an additional between the cap and bushing. I also bored out the cross slide bearing, made a sleeve, and press fit it which eliminated the slap. It's now a smooth running, quite machine worthy of the "Butterfly" brand. For a more detailed description of the repairs with photos see http://owwm.org/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=133810 A manual for the filer is available at http://www.vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=5956. I sold this machine in 2015 after finding a nice All American Die Filer on C/L.
