The band saw is thought to be a integrated part of what was originally called "The Crescent Universal Woodworker" - a multi-purpose machine. It is now mounted as a single machine (band saw only). I found this machine in Grant, Florida. It was sold to me by a retired machine shop owner. The band saw was buried in an out-building and took approximately and hour to clear a path in order to roll it outside. I have enjoyed the process of restoring it and aquiring background information. Best I can tell, Crescent began making the series No. 101-112 machines in 1914 (with babbitted bearings). It is also believed that the serial number was stamped on a different part of the universal machine, which offers clue to the reason why no serial numbers appear on the band saw portion.
