This Lathe was shipped from the South Bend Lathe works 11/3/39 to Hobbins & Myers Co. in Sprinfield, Ohio. Over the years it made its way to the Buffalo, NY area where I bought. It is called a heavy 9 or wide bed 9 and was the transition lathe to the heavy 10 (10L). It has a 9" swing but the bed width is the same as the 10" lathe and it has a large spindle (1-3/8 through hole and 2¼-8 spindle thread) that has the capacity for 5C collets. I completely tore this down, cleaned, painted and reassembled. It was pretty much complete but a few parts needed to be purchased as well as some significant investment in tooling. I added the pedestal base - it was originally a bench mount.
