I found this on Craig's List located about 45 minutes from home. I was born and raised in Williamsport and played little league baseball in the 1960's on a team sponsored by Hermance Machine Company - a later reincarnation of the Rowley&Hermance company. As a result I couldn't pass it up.
The machine is a square head 2 knife 18" planer. It has a flat belt drive system. No drive motor was included with it. It is probably the smallest R&H piece of equipment avaialble (or at least that I have seen)which was an attraction for me as I don't have a lot of shop space for the mmore typical size machines they made.
Based on some limited research, a Rowley and Hermance cast in lettering on the head cover and an American Wood Working machine base I am currently dating this machine in the 1900 to 1910 era. No restoration has started yet - probably will be awhile before I get to it.
