Comments:
Purchased April 2013 from a retired builder, found on CraigsList. He owned it for several decades but had no further history. What looks to be the original motor is attached, though it is upside down and some PO brazed a coin onto the toggle switch. (I like that adaptation; makes it fit the finger better.) Another change made by some PO was the addition of gears to the right side. Ja'Nette suggested that the gears were likely the upper portion of a foot feed of some sort, the rest of the apparatus being missing. As they are configured, a large gear powers a smaller gear, making for large movements of the quill with small movement of the foot pedal. The chuck is a 1/2" Jacobs "Multicraft" on a straight shaft held in place with set screws, no taper.
I intend to rehab this machine and use it. As it is, it works quietly and smoothly, with little play in the original sealed ball bearings. Though they serve no purpose, I will leave the external gears in place since thay add to the cool factor.

Comments: Of course, the more manufacturer name castings, the better.
