This machine was formally known as the Powermatic Mystery Planer. Thanks to Keith Bonn's generosity, and Bob Vaughn's wealth of knowledge, it has been identified as a model 12. It seems Powermatic made two versions of the model 12, and then followed those with the model 100. I believe the earlier version of the model 12's is like the one pictured here. A later version was made with the motor inboard.
Keith had sent me dirty paper on Powermatic 12" planers and in the paper were two different advertisements/info sheets on the inboard and outboard versions.
This baby arrived about a month ago, when I spied it in a newspaper ad in Atlanta. I promptly called the owner and set up a meet, planed some wood with it, and brought it home. Its a bit ugly in the paint, and the original switch is missing, but I think its fine otherwise, including what I think is the original motor. I will follow Professor Vaughn's directions and carefully take it apart, clean it and check for bearing problems etc. The owner said it came out of a school somewhere.
That's about all I know about it so far.
