This was in my fathers basement nobody wanted it, rather than scrap it I took it and it's been in my garage for a number of years, again rather than scrap it, I decided to freshen it up and maybe give it to my grandson, who has expressed an interest in woodworking. I would like to get some info on it, like what year was it manufactured and by whom? model 149.21880 sold by Sears & Roebuck/Simpson-Sears Ltd.,what is the wire attached to the fence used for and is there a spring for the blade guard? If so, how is it attached? The spring in the photo and the wood on the fence I'm sure was added by my father. Any and all info will be helpful.
Update, these photos are the finished product. There wasn't much to do on this that a little elbow grease wouldn't take care of. After cleaning I applied a coat of etching primer and painted with gray hammer finish paint. I did the same with the stand replacing the top using a piece of 1in plywood covered with flooring scraps I had laying around. I do have to either get the knives replaced or at the very least sharpened.
(Admin BAK, 7/17/2018: The wire should be attached to the backside of the fence with the bend pointing up. It is a rudimentary blade guard as the fence is moved across the table exposing more of the cutter head.)
