Lathe being auctioned on eBay. Pictures reproduced with permission of the owner, Don Carlson. One of the machines from Y-A's "W Line" of art deco machines. This lathe uses a Reeves Drive variable speed mechanism to provide infinitely-adjustable spindle speeds of 800 to 4000 RPM. A number of different motors were available, but this particular one has a 1/3HP Robbins & Myers repulsion-induction motor. In 1939, it sold for 63.75, with an extra $22.00 for the stand.
The design of the very similar W-25 combination machine was rather obviously ripped off by Shopsmith. If you've ever seen one of these and a Shopsmith 10E or 10ER, you'll know what I'm talking about!
