I acquired this saw On July, 2001 via EBay from seller ibuytools. While I paid a bit over a bottom feeder price ($300.00), the seller was within an hours drive (No Shipping costs!) and the machine came with virtually all of its original parts. The paint was a little rough so I ended up doing a complete teardown, stripping all metal parts down to the bare metal and repainting. I replaced all of the bearings, the drive v-belt, and both tires, added cool blocks, and rewired the electricals to replace a bad power switch. The addition of a quick crank for blade tensioning and a "WoodSlicer" resaw blade (from Highland Hardware), a replacement tensioning spring from Iturra Design (Great Catalog!), and finishing up with a tune-up ala Mark Duginske's The Bandsaw Handbook. (a must have for newbie bandsaw owner).
While it only has a 1/2 hp Westinghouse motor, it does a reasonable job resawing red oak up to the 6 in maximum thanks to the Woodslicer resaw blade. In addition, this saws run at a slower blade speed compared to Delta's current models, which helps overcome the relatively low horsepower rating. Overall, this ended up being a solid performer that I hope will be ready for another 50 years of service.
The serial number is 33-6247; according to Delta this is a born on date of December, 1944. According to the OWWM dating page this saw was built in 1945. I'd say that is close enuf for government work!
