Comments:
I purchased this in the autumn of 2012 from a young man who states that it was shop-built by an aircraft manufacturer machinist. I am not certain that it was ever used, because the disks showed no evidence of being balanced or having sandpaper applied. The disks were badly out of true and out of balance. I had the adapters lathed but the wobble persisted, and I finally determined that the problem was the bore, which was overly large, creating eccentricity when the setscrews were tightened. Rather than re-bore the adapters, I drilled and tapped for more setscrews and used paper shims, balanced the disks, and now it is very smooth. The original builder put together a rustic but surprisingly stable stand for the sander, which I chose to bulk up and pretty up a little by cladding with salvaged laminated table tops of various shades of off white and burgundy. I was able to build in a dust collector, add a VFD, and build substantial adjustable tables. I used rod and pipe struts for support and repurposed legs from photo tripods for fine-tuning of the table angle. I feel the tables should have been supported by a proper trunnion, but I couldn't figure that out, and this works very well. The motor is a 2 hp, 3 phase, 1750 RPM Louis Allis. All in all this is now a very useful machine.
