These cast feet (DDL 203, DDL 204) were optional accessories to raise an older (pre-1941) Delta Double Duty steel lathe bed off the bench, to facilitate clean-up of shavings. An example of a steel bed lathe with these or similar feet in place can be seen at: http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=6392
These were advertised in Delta catalogs from 1935 through 1939 (see below); the catalog description indicates they were needed only for metal turning. Later cast iron beds (starting in 1940) all had integral feet that left a gap under the sides of the bed to accomplish the same objective.
I don't own these, but thought the photos included in a recent auction notice might be of use to others here. I've read discussions of DDL lathe feet on the OMMW site (e.g. http://www.owwm.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=101570; http://www.owwm.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34429), but these are the most detailed pictures I've yet seen of them. The seller described them as follows:
"Up for bid is a set of Delta Milwaukee Bed Feet for the 930 steel bed wood lathes. This was an option offered by Delta and I have never run across these before. Item is in excellent condition with no additional holes, cracks, or breaks. The second picture shows the catalog numbers in the casting..."
(I wonder if they were bought or sold by a VM/OMMW member?)
