Saw this jointer on Craigslist back in 3/07 for $900 and I kept seeing it periodically getting reposted so in June I offered him $700 and he refused, but eventually the seller accepted my offer. Turns out he was closing his wookworking business and had to get the jointer out of space he was renting. I had originally made arrangements to rent a truck with a liftgate because the jointer weighs in at 1400 lbs. But on the last day to get the jointer out of his work place there was some kind of mix up with the rental agency's schedule and the truck was not available......so I called the seller with the bad news and he said not to worry that he would dismantle it and put it in my Volvo station wagon. When I arrived he had it all apart and pushed it right into my wagon which his loading dock was level with the rear of my wagon floor. Off I went with my jointer and soon I suddenly felt the car start to roll when I was turning. My instincts took over and I was able to right the wagon.......nearly scared the crap out of me........I was at the limit of my Volvo's weight capacity, so I creeped very slowly home without any more problems.
This jointer was originally purchased by the seller from a woodworking friend, who told him that the jointer had been in his workplace for as long as anyone could remember. The motor is a 2 hp direct drive and the seller told me that it had 3 phase wiring. However, when I got home and looked closely at the motor it said 2 phase on the spec. plate. After calling the seller, he told me that the jointer was definitely wired for 3 phase,
but he called his friend and inquired about the 2 phase label. He was told that at sometime in the past the motor was rewired when the business got
3 phase service. I haven't been able to check this as of yet, but I sure hope he is correct.
The jointer is in pretty good shape, but does need a complete restoration mostly just paint removal and repainting. That will come in early summer.
