You dont see to many of this type around, that is why I bid and won this machine at a school auction.
The Brodhead Garrett J-line were mostly sold to schools, very basic machines but built well to handle the everyday abuse of students. This is my second BG machine the other is a J-170 lathe that I love. This machine came pretty much plug and play, installed a new plug, table was very rusty and begining to pit,WD40, wet and dry paper with a coat of wax took care of that. The motor look to be orginal,a Dayton 1/2 hp single phase. What I like about this saw is the varible speed control by turning the handle, it adjusts(slides on a track)
the motor mount to decrease or tighten the belt for the speed. The saw has a 26'' cutting capacity, over all the saw is well built. I will donate this scrollsaw to my HS Woodshop program. In the base stand ,I found in a box the dirty paper and a bunch of parts for the saw.
