Unbelievable deal. My sweetheart saw this drill press in the "Free" section of CL. She searches there, when I'm searching tools. I never would have seen it othewise. She even called and reserved it for me. When I got there the owner told me that it was frozen up and didn't work. Little testing showed me it would. A little cleanup and it did.
Now, note that I've never had more trouble than getting the downfeed placed exactly so it didn't rebind the quill when the mounting bolts were tightened. I spent over a month every morning and evening trying a couple of times to get the downfeed tightened and one day, i must have had the touch, and it worked ba-da-bing. I recall that what I had to do is get the quill driver box lined up and then work back to tightening parts back toward the motor... where I had previously worked from the motor forward.
THis machine did not take any restoration, just a teardown and cleanup. Paint and RI motor are original although I did brushed and bearings in the motor. I've never seen another like it.
The back story was that this was from a Bakery! What? Oh kay then.
