I purchased this Band saw off Craigslist in Yakima Washington. It was built for the U.S. Naval Torpedo Station in Keyport Washington. The story I got was that it was used to cut shim stock that wedged the glass battery housings in Submarines... The next owner was Atrium Windows in Yakima Washington. I have no idea when they purchased the machine from the Navy. They used it in the manufacturing of wooden doors and windows. The hour meter reads over 2000 hours, so I assume the meter was installed for maintenance purposes by the Navy. When Atrium Windows decided to upgrade to a new machine, the building owner acquired the saw and put it in his climate controlled shop where it sat for 7 years.
I personally love the snowflake motor cover (652 VH). I haven't seen any other snowflake machine with one of them installed, so I find it a special noteworthy perk that came with the saw. Another sweetener was the neat cast iron retirement lamp made by the Woodward Machine company in Detroit Michigan. Perfect condition with all original thumb screws.
Tension was left on the blade, so a flat spot occurred on the wheels, but since they are in good condition, I may consider dressing the wheels as opposed to changing them out... At-least for now.
Literally, other than that, the saw is in incredible working order! I do plan to restore it some day with a Marine Corps Aviation theme. (Tactical Green and Black color scheme with safety wired bolts.) (Former Marine Helicopter Mechanic... HMH-363 Airframes)
Not a single crack anywhere.
5hp 720 RPM
Solid aluminum disk upper wheel, solid cast iron disk bottom wheel.
Came with an original manual, machine record, parts list, instructions for changing tires, and copy of the mechanical drawings for the upper wheel assembly.
A relentless patient search led me to the exact band saw I was looking for, and in a condition that was well beyond my hopes. I feel blessed.
