A friend purchased this machine at an auction in Grand Rapids several years ago. Knowing that I coveted a variable-speed drill press, and not having the time to restore this himself we worked out a trade and I ended up with it.
It came with the big production table, and overall it was in pretty good condition without any significant rust and no serious abuse other than a moderate arc of shame on the table. However the spline in the upper drive sleeve were almost completely worn away, and the splines on the spindle shaft were so severely worn that the two would actually disengage if the quill was lowered more than a couple of inches.
I was able to find a used spindle in good condition. The sleeve was more difficult. I ended up buying a used one from an earlier model Delta VS DP that was the correct size, but needed to have it machined to add a slot needed for the reeves drive mechanism. A good cleaning and painting, new bearings and belt, plus the addition of a very bright LED flood light in the head and a keyless chuck put this back into operation. This press was sold in earlier years badged as a Delta, and I was able to find a brand-new badge for the Delta nameplate, so it's now badged as a Delta.

Other than the badging, the only modification was installing an LED worklight. As yo can see it works very well

This is how it appeared when I got it. The slight surface rust on the table was the only rust on the entire machine
