I bought this planer in 2011 from a fellow in South Hempstead, NY (on Long Island). It had been his father's. I also picked up a 6" jointer and a Powermatic Model 26 shaper which dated from 1966. I had the impression he was a serious hobbyist as opposed to a pro, but that may be incorrect.

I have the impression this planer is a fairly serious industrial machine. It is, first of all, massive, and took 4 men to load into my SUV. Far heavier than my Unisaw or the similarly sized shaper. The top casting which holds the cast bed seems to account for a good portion of the mass. It runs the blades using a chain drive and seems to have some kind of belt-driven feed rate control. The workpiece is advanced by a toothed metal roller. The drive mechanism makes a cool whine when its running.

There was no dust collection when I received it but I used existing bolt-downs on the top casting to hold a plywood baffle with a 4" port attached to it, and this works remarkably well.
