This was left in an industrial unit and I acquired it from the landlord. This was the smallest size offered, and 2 larger sizes are still being made by Terrco.
Using a standard router, its main use is for sign making, but luthiers also use these. It is a duplicator, the stylus uses the same size tracing bit as the router bit, and follows a template. The counterweight is adjustable for easier control.
I haven't used it yet, but it operates very smooth throughout its travel range. I plan on using it to rout out recesses in solid blocks of wood for box making.(see wood in background, many species of old growth exotic hardwood used on freight ships years ago ). Then I will rabbet the underside of the box lids for a nice fit. I'll make the box and lid templates out of pine. I've been looking for an overarm router for this purpose, and I think this Marlin carver will work just fine.
