Comments:
This is a Atlas Engine Works stationary steam engine that was acquired in 1988 from a private owner in Boise, ID. It has in raised lettering: ATLAS ENGINE WORKS, INDIANAPOLIS, IND. U.S.A. on the side as well as the model/serial number, 22601, in raised lettering on top. It has 2, 9 and 1/2 inch wide by 42 inches in diameter flywheels. The cylinder is 10 x 12. It has a 2 and 1/2 inch steam line and a 3 and 1/2 inch exhaust line. It also has the original seller 's plate on it that reads: HENSHAW, BULKLEY & CO. AGENTS San Francisco, Cal. The story that was relaid to me was that it came out of the Thunder Mountain mining area, NE of McCall, ID. It was used to run a sawmill and stamp mill. The original boiler came with it but proved to be too rusty and unsafe to use. I had to add, the 3 and 1/2 exhaust line, the inline lubricator for the cylinder, the governor belt and misc. repair work. It is in immaculate shape for being as old as it is. It can also be turned easily over by hand.
