Comments:
I found this jointer advertised on Craigslist. The seller had previously purchased it from the Essex Shipbuilding Museum, a working museum in Essex, MA. The museum had replaced it with a newer donated machine. This machine was likely receive as a donation a number of years earlier.
Instead of being direct or belt driven, this jointer is gear driven. The motor is offset from the head with a gear box between. The head and gearbox each have a plate with three pins, and sandwiched between the two plates is a plastic or hard rubber disk with holes for the pins.
