>>MACHINE<<
Post-WWII Craftsman heavy duty bronze bearing polishing head.
Cast iron body, 2" die-cast aluminum pulley and machined steel shaft with ½-20 threaded arbors.
Spring loaded oil caps are equipped with felt wicks.
The original medium gray paint and Craftsman decal are heavily faded.
I substituted a set of solid steel flanges for the stamped steel originals.
I also added an inboard nut on each side, to space the wheels out to the ends.
I didn't bother with restoration, because this machine is quickly going to get grubby.
>>HISTORY<<
I picked up this polishing head in a trade with a fellow OWWMer, in 2010.
No previous history is known.
UPDATE: September 2012
Paired up on an existing stand, opposite a Craftsman 103.6604 belt driven grinder.
The polishing head is driven, from below, by a 1953 Dunlap 115.7300 ¼hp 1750rpm bronze bearing motor.
The motor is equipped with a 2½" pulley, to produce 2200rpm at the polishing head spindle.
The stand is equipped with a split outlet for both machine motors and an on-off-on switch to control either.
I plan on using this polishing head for various buffing wheels.
