Comments:
This is my recently-acquired Imperial patternmaker's lathe. When I got it the lathe was in very nice condition but it had paint issues so I disassembled it pretty much completely, stripped most of the paint, cleaned, and painted before reassembling in my basement. The lathe came well-equipped with tooling, including 3 jaw and 4 jaw chucks, several faceplates, tool rests and a whole cabinet full of tools, gouges, tool bits and other stuff. This is an extremely heavy lathe with a 3HP two speed three phase Lous Allis motor. The bed has external dovetails for the carriage to ride on. I have the compound to go onto the cross slide but it isn't shown in the pictures. This is as fine a wood lathe as I have seen anywhere. It's rock steady and quiet. It's tight and shows no wear despite being built I would guess in the late 40's or 50's. I'd say this aptly named lathe will compare very favorably with any other lathe in its range, old or new.
