Purchased via CL listing. Seller was working with estate of PO who had passed away some time ago. He was into model railroads and apparently made all pieces himself. There was a old, small metal shaper and newer mill. There was a bench where a lathe used to sit. The many books laying around of railroad parts catalogs (e.g. Bethlehem Steel Co.), led me to believe he was serious. DP is in great shape, was used for metalworking mostly from the amount of oil and metal shavings on it. The seller included a few random hand tools which included an automatic screwdriver and ancient can opener.
Listed in the 1941 Powr-Kraft catalog: http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=847 with a retail price of $36.50 without motor. In today's dollars, that's about $550.00. With 1/3 HP motor, $45.95/$675.00. However, I don't think this is the exact model from '41 or '49, as the model number is FD2553A and the 1949 catalog seems to have "R" as the last digit. Plus, this has a 1/4HP motor and it seemed that 1/3HP were the options in 1941.
