Inherited by my father from his father (d. 1958). A few decades of neglect had left deep pitting in the cast iron of the table and some persistent oxidation in the solid steel rip fence and rip-fence guide. Originally painted a dull dark green, had previously been repainted with beige enamel and aluminum paint. Hand-lapped the table to remove the worst of the pitting, stripped the paint from the aluminum wheel guards, gave the remainder a new paint job, replaced the tires (originally rubber, replaced with urethane), throat insert (originally ?some kind of resin, replaced with high-density urethane foam board), blade guides (originally oil-impregnated bronze; replaced with 'cool blocks'), and upper-wheel tilt-adjust knob (original was simply a thumb screw, bent and rusty), and gave the lower bearings new grease. May need to replace the guide bearings as well: they are a bit cranky. This week it gets a new motor: then we see if it actually works. A 1930s-vintage member of the 'Driver' (i.e. home-shop) line by Walker-Turner. Definitely in the 700 series, and very similar to the model BN730, though the literature on that model differs very slightly from the machine in hand (a few knobs are different, etc.). Takes a 78" blade. I link here to a picture on Flickr of my grandfather running this very saw (in Astoria, Queens, ca. 1937: https://flic.kr/p/JwZFFy).
