This is a mid-fifties Walker Turner model 3110, bought from a fellow OWWMer.
It came on a stand made from aluminum angle that I transformed into the drive unit installed inside the cabinet. The 1/2HP, 1725 rpm motor powers a jackshaft that has two pulleys to drive the blade at either 1,500 sfpm, or 175 sfpm so that the saw can be made to cut metal or wood (1,500 sounds low for a wood saw, but that’s what this model was rated at from the factory). To switch between metal and wood cutting, the motor mount is loosened by a single nut on the side of the drive and the belt switched out. It is tensioned, and then locked in place by the single nut.
It’s a somewhat light saw, so the ½” metal blade is probably pushing it to keep the correct tension, but it runs nicely and doesn’t seem to mind slicing through some aluminum and sheet metal that I tested it with.
When running at 1,500 sfpm, that 12” pulley really moves and creates a fan effect.
The cabinet is made from MDF like most of my projects. The paint color is from fellow OWWMer Bill Nance which doesn’t really show in the pics, but it is a sage green from Rustoleum.
The tires are older, but I was able to crown them, and because I’ll probably use this for metal, wasn’t too concerned about the checking that is present.
