Comments:
I bought this planer in 1993 from an architectural woodworking shop in Norwalk Connecticut called Crane Woodworking (they ran a classified ad in the old newsprint edition of Woodshop News). They had upgraded to a larger and newer European planer. The paint is original, and although chipped and worn, I've decided to leave it as is. I kind of like it in its original splendor. The only repairs it needed was a new handle on the front hand wheel and a new switch on the grinder motor. It is a workhorse and has served me well ever since. As with all Olivers, it is extremely well engineered and well built. One of the first machines I purchased, I bought it when I was 26 years old. I paid $2200 for it, and the owner of the company I bought it from was so supportive of the fact that I as a young guy was setting up my own shop that he delivered it personally for no extra charge (about a 2 hr drive to my shop at that time). The car I was driving at that time was worth a third of the cost of that planer, and it was my only vehicle! But this was a sound investment in my future that made sense and has more than paid for itself.

Specs: 5 h.p. three phase direct drive motor, overhead knife grinder, variable speed feed rate, three knife head.
