Comments:
Nice example of an early J.A. Fay & Egan line shaft band saw. It is located in the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, N.C. This is on the famous intracoastal waterway, adjacent to the better known cities of Morehead and Atlantic Beach, N.C.

All information on, and permission to post the pics., came from William Prentice, Maritime Technician. He builds wooden boats and ships.

The band saw was donated to the museum and came from western N.C. As it was delivered, it was a line shaft machine. Volunteers, who really make the museum go, converted it to V-belt operation. They added a 2HP, single phase, 1740 RPM motor. Surprisingly to me, the lower V-belt pulley dia. is approx. the same size as the wheels - 33".

The main table appears to be a replacement. It's top surface sits approx. 3/8" above that of the gap table. Photos of the underside show that it has been re-drilled and tapped to match with the tilt yoke bolt pattern.

As received, it had crude, non-OSHA guards. Again, volunteers crafted the nice replacements you see.

This machine matches well with the #192 saw is shown in the 1924 catalog available here on the mothership. The 1929 catalog does not carry mention of model #192.

Is share the same unusual counterweight linkage shown in the link below:
