Here are some pictures of my newly rebuilt Oliver #192 band saw. It had been painted Powermatic Green when I got it, was missing the lower tire, on its base backwards and had bearings in its upper wheel inside out. I have pictures of the saw posted, when I first got it.
According to the original invoice, it was delivered new to the US Navy Yard at Mare Island August 14, 1942. For $382.00. The original motor from Oliver was a ½ HP 220 volt DC motor. When I purchased the saw it had been repowered with a ¾ HP 3 phase Baldor motor.
As can be seen it has been repowered with a Baldor 1HP 1725RPM motor, this makes the arbor speed 949 RPM, 48 RPM faster than the original. I used hard maple and pillow blocks with a 1? axel shaft to replace the direct drive motor. It has been painted with Rust-Oleum?s Hammered Black Spray Paint. The nameplate was repainted under a dissection microscope using colors matching the original. The restoration has taken about 3 months.
One interesting thing, a 120? blade, which it calls for is too long for it. A 115? seems to be the perfect size.
