I acquired this Oscillating Spindle Sander through Craig's List. This is a three phase machine that was wired by an Electrician (unknown to me) prior to my purchasing it to run on 220 volt single phase power. Wired in with the start switch there is a large capacitor which I assume is for phase shifting to start the motor. It also contains a heavy duty relay that closes when you hit the start switch. I am unsure as to how the motor is wired and very careful when getting involved in any wiring changes. I installed a Delta push button start stop switch. I prefer the push button switch over the normal toggle switch.

The spindles turn at 1750 RPM and there is a lever on the side to engage and disengage oscillating feature. A 1 HP 1750 RPM Peerless Electrical Company motor drives the spindles. The spindles use the Morse # 2 tapper to attach to the drive system. The sander came with several spindles and throat plates. I had to have additional spindles made to complete the full complement of spindles sizes. I made the table mounted under the start switch box to hold the spindles.

The machine is very heavy I would estimate 200 LBS at least. I mounted the machine on a movable base. At present other than the few modifications I made to hold the spindles and convert to a pushbutton start stop switch the machine is pretty much in the shape as when I purchased it. The machine runs very smooth and solid when in operation.

The sanding table on this machine is square compared to the round tables on other sanders on this site.
