Found at a flea market for $20. I did some basic research and the first appearance I found was a 1936 Popular Mechanics magazine advertisement(May 1936)and may have been made into the early 40’s. It was advertised as "6 inch Special Grinder" for $24. I've seen similar grinders branded Van Dorn, Dunlap and Craftsman and believe the original design was by Van Dorn, but since they were bought out by B&D in 1928, Black and Decker is most likely the original manufacture. It’s a 6 inch, type H, 50-60hz, 3000-3600 rpm. I originally thought it was missing the end-bells but the add shows it without them so now I only have to find the tool rest....The handle is, well, very handy. Plugged it in and it ran – at least until the cord shorted out! It was grungy when I brought it home but, except for a cleaning, new rubber feet and a power cord, I didn’t paint or otherwise change it. It came with the buffing taper but is missing the left tool rest. I was going to swap the buffing taper to the left side (to use the available rest) but was surprised to find shafts are threaded left on the left side and right on the right - maybe that's a common configuration. It’s in remarkable shape for an 80 year old machine - someone clearly took good care of it, as most of what I cleaned off was just thick dust. I was stunned by the condition of the heavy enamel finish – looks like the paint on and old Ford model T! There will be bearings in the near future (sounds a little gritty) and I’ll start looking for the left tool rest but for now, I’m just going to use it and admire its shiny presence in the shop. Here's a link to Google books copy of the 1936 add: http://books.google.com/books?id=DdsDAAAAMBAJ&pg=RA1-PA149&dq=black+and+decker+6%22+grinder&hl=en&sa=X&ei=k4GgT9WLFI3G0AHsgrCzAg&ved=0CFwQ6AEwAzgK#v=onepage&q=black%20and%20decker%206%22%20grinder&f=false
