11/7/12 EDIT: A gentleman by the name of Slate has tried to contact me regarding this saw and one he possibly found. Your email address is bouncing back. Please try to contact me again with a different email address. I would love to talk about your saw! Thank you!

This jigsaw/scroll saw was my #1 quest item and has now been found with the help of OWWM member Eric Clayton. This particular model was only listed in the Craftsman catalogs for two years, 1956 and 1957 - and then never seen again. In 1956 it was offered by itself and in 1957 with an optional attached worklight and also came in power bronze. I have only seen one other, but wasn't able to put together a sale. This is one of the rarest power tools Craftsman ever made and I am in deep appreciation of having it in my collection!

I had been posting some pictures in my garage build thread on Garage Journal (http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103099) of some of the rarer vintage Craftsman tools that I had on my quest list and at the top of the list was this saw. I had also posted a 'WTB' for this saw in the BOYD section of the OWWM.org website. I had first heard about this saw from OWWM member Brian Kachadurian and was shown a picture of the saw in the Craftsman Power Tools store section from circa 1957.

OWWM forum member Eric Clayton saw my interest in this saw and remarked to me that he thought he had seen something like that in a Craigslist ad a while back, but the ad had since expired. So he created another ad asking if anyone still had that saw for sale. Amazingly, he got a response that led him to the owner, who still had the saw for sale! He snatched it up in the blink of an eye and let me know that he had found me my new saw:)

Eric told me that the former owners used it to build extremely large and finely detailed doll houses. The saw was found in the condition below, completely original and complete save for the blade tension handle knob and a replaced power cord. The saw was found in Illinois and was then transported to the April 2012 OWWAMO event being held in Missouri. It was then transferred to Nancy Kimber and driven back to Denver, CO where it has now found it's new home.

I am very excited to be able to post this tool to the Craftsman Photo Index as it is the very first 1956/57 20" Craftsman scroll saw documented on the OWWM site. This amazing find would not have been possible without the help of Eric's eagle eye and thrill of the hunt, and Nancy's selfless transport of said saw. Thank you to both of you. Every time I use this saw I will remember the generosity of these members and the entire collective membership of OWWM.
