A call to Don Hege at Central Machinery in Lexington, NC, who still repairs Wysong and Miles woodworking machines, revealed that this machine was built as part of a run of 10 sometime before it was sold on January 15, 1922, to a company in Greensboro, NC, for $285. It was then resold to a company in Richmond, VA, in 1934. It eventually made its way to The Millwork Specialist in Richmond, VA, (established 1958) where it had been used at least up to the 1990's.Except for the wooden foot pedal and few bolts it was complete. Babbitt bearings throughout. The owner said the company used to run it from a line shaft. As purchased it came with a 3 hp/3 phase GE motor that also had babbitt bearings, so it had been converted to electric some time ago. Mr. Hege was able to cast a new foot pedal from the original, 1920's pattern. I added a 2hp single phase motor, motor starter, replaced the belt, and cleaned and painted. The paint is a Sherwin Williams gloss enamel in a color called "cast iron" which is close to the original color.
