The 1962 Stanley Electric Tools Catalog features this Model 697 Grinder (formerly Model 677) with the Model 626 Pedestal. Without any other data to work from, I will assume the grinder dates to the early 1960s. I acquired it from another OWWMer who bought it at a school district auction in Saginaw, Texas. A tag on the machine reveals it was originally sold by Machinery Sales and Supplies Co. of Dallas, Texas. It has a low speed 1/3 HP, 3 phase motor (1725RPM). I intend to install a VFD inside the pedestal so I can have variable speed control for sharpening tools. As you can see, it is painted green, but I may consider stripping and repainting if I can find out what the original color was. One of the outside wheel guards (cast iron)is broken and one of the tool rests is missing. I'm also missing a lens for one of the eye shields. Otherwise, the machine appears to be in very good condition.
